In this post, I will be discussing the Latest mission of NASA and their interesting Facts
27th May 2020 when Elon musks Space X and NASA together for the first time in history was sending humans into space. The name of the mission was Demo 2.
This mission was way different than other space missions and also very interesting and you get astonished after knowing the reasons behind this, like NASA's Latest Space mission, was in late 2011 and now we're in 2020 and meanwhile, NASA has not done even 1 mission on their own, I mean this NASA has to take help of other countries.
We will discuss why NASA was not doing their own space mission on its own till now in this post. In this mission, the rocket used of was of a type that if once launched it will not get ejected in Space but it will come down again to earth on its correct place, just as if a bullet launched from a gun hits its target and again comes in the Gun because in this Space mission something like this was going to happen. I know that the most thing that you are curious about is the point of Bullet coming back to the gun.
So let's discuss that thing first
In Demo 2 Space mission the thing that will take astronauts in space is of course their Rocket. The part of a rocket in which astronauts go into space is called Spacecraft, but 90 % of the body of the rocket is occupied by the rest of the part of the rocket.Image of a SpaceCraft is shown below
The job of that part is just to take Spacecraft in space and after that, it ejects from spacecraft and gets attracted towards the earth but as discussed earlier the rocket used in this Mission (i.e. Falcon 9) does not hover in space but comes back to its actual place safely, this is a reusable type of Rocket. The use of this type of Rocket saves a lot of money from Space agencies. This Rocket is Designed by Tony Stark of real-life i.e. Elon Musk. I remembered from Tony Stark that you have noticed the cameo of Elon Musk in the IRON MAN 2 movie.
CRUE DRAGON AND FALCON 9
Now let's discuss the important part of Rocket i.e. Remaining 10 % of the rocket ie. Crue Dragon. Like Falcon 9 this spacecraft is also totally reusable and fully automated this means that for reaching its destination astronauts did not have to do anything that means everything works on AutoPilot so that Astronauts can totally focus on their main Mission. This Crue Dragon is divided into 2 Parts
The upper part is called Capsule and the lower one is called Trunk in which Solar Panels are present by which SpaceCraft gets the required energy. In its Upper section Astronauts are present with all that needed tools for the mission. One SpaceCraft can carry 4 people to International Space Station and because its a demo mission so rather than four 2 astronauts will be taken into SpaceStation and they are Behnken and Hurley and the spacesuit used by these astronauts is way lighter and different than other Spacesuit.
As discussed Earlier 2011 NASA was dependent on Russia for sending their astronauts into Space and this was because on 5th January 1992 when NASA st the first time NASA for the first time launched their Space Shuttle Program. From then till 2004 NASA used the same for launching all their Space shuttles, but in 2004 Americas President declared that NASA's Space Shuttle program was too old as compared to modern technology and because of this they start working on the new project till 2010 and NASA recognized that making new project will make a gap of 4 years in their plans and because of this the funding provided to NASA was not sufficient and because of this NASA requested US government to increase their funds and because of some disputes in government and NASA the delay was increased and because of this NASA got dependent of Russia, and now this responsibility is given to Space X and amount given to Space X is 1 Billion $.
After that what happened you all know is that on 27th May 2020 mission was a delay due to bad weather condition and on 30th May Demo 2 was successfully launched and after some time of Launch Falcon 9 got separated from crue dragon and then in Present Falcon 9 will try to land safely on earth and Crue Dragon will reach International Space Station and after reaching there the astronauts will check all the systems of International space station so that if by mistake if Crue Dragons automatic system gets any problem it will repair it soon.
After testing these astronauts will Live in the Space station for 110 days and while coming back again Crue Dragon's Trunk will get separated from CrueDragon because while returning back to earth there will be no use of this Trunk and when CrueDragon reached earth atmosphere its Parachute will open and will safely land in the Atlantic Ocean and this is how the space mission will be carried out successfully.
